Bluebonnets

A few good stills……

Thanks for reading the 2nd blog of photographer, Lori Lee.  This blog marks the end of bluebonnet season in Texas.  Texas bluebonnets--the state flower. Most Texans could draw a bluebonnet from memory. It is a beloved flower, and lifelong Texans will remember Ladybird Johnson’s legacy of planting bluebonnets and all native plants.  Yes, bluebonnets represent Texas. Bluebonnet season is a photographer’s dream in terms of background and scenery.

This photoshoot occurred a few weeks ago, and started late, it was planned at the last minute, and this presented several challenges.  It was hot and humid; nobody could see well.  However, challenges are best if they can be seen as opportunities.  One challenge worth noting for the blog: the battle of the afternoon sun, a photographer’s nightmare.

There are many ways to attempt to compensate for high sun, but all factors considered, the sun was scorching, at its highest and harshest.  One way to compensate is to either have a shade or umbrella, or place the subjects in the shade. For this shoot, none were available.  The other way is to turn the setting on the f-stop as low as it will go.  Take some test shots and turn it up as necessary.  Be sure to move around the subject, as some angles may look better than others, even if the sun is at its highest.

A few good stills are the result of this photoshoot in the renowned Texas spring landscape. Lessons learned: book the client an hour before sunset.  Thanks to all involved.
